Butterflies Alive! (2018)

New Sprague Butterfly Pavilion

Ended October 14, 2018

The inaugural run of our popular Butterflies Alive! exhibit in the new Butterfly Pavilion will run from Saturday, September 22 to Sunday, October 14, 2018 and be open daily from noon-4:00 PM when the butterflies are most active.

The new Sprague Butterfly Pavilion, a one-of-a-kind permanent structure built from local Santa Barbara sandstone and steel ribs, features hundreds of local flowering plants, a water pond, and wooden benches, inviting guests to relax and enjoy the naturally beautiful surroundings along the shaded banks of Mission Creek.

Guests will be delighted as they walk through a tranquil garden while nearly 1,000 live butterflies flutter freely around them. The exhibit features Red Admiral, Painted Lady, and Mourning Cloak butterflies, all species found in Santa Barbara County.

Starting in 2019, the Butterflies Alive! exhibit will be open every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The exhibit is free with paid Museum admission.
