Drawn from Nature: The Maximus Legacy
The John and Peggy Maximus Gallery is celebrating its thirtieth year thanks to the vision, dedication, and financial support of a singular patron, Peggy Maximus. She and her husband John collected antique natural history prints as inspiration for his work as an artist and illustrator.
The Maximus Collection of more than 4,000 engravings and lithographs represent a sampling of European and American illustrations from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. They give us a glimpse into the history of the sciences through art. The Museum is one of the few places in the world to have a gallery dedicated to showing this combination of history, science, nature, and art.
Included with Museum admission, Members are always free. The gallery is ADA accessible; visit our accessibility page for more information.
