Science Pub: Growing Through Nature with Clay Sipiora

At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street

September 9, 2024 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

Technology is pervasive among children and their environments. In today’s digital world, it’s more critical than ever that children spend time outside. Research has shown that spending time in nature is not only beneficial but might be necessary for both kids and adults.

At the Museum and Sea Center, we seek to connect people to nature for the betterment of both, and we think it’s particularly important to help children build their connection to nature. Nature Adventures Manager Clay Sipiora, M.S., has exemplified this in his research in youth development leadership, and his career working in outdoor settings and camps. Sipiora will describe how children’s time in nature is a key part of development and social learning. Let's explore the difference between large and small nature experiences and think about how they're important for children and the future of our planet.

Join our fun and friendly conversation and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature in this ongoing series of free science talks held on the second Monday of every month. No tickets or reservations required, but be sure to get to Dargan’s (18 E. Ortega St. in downtown Santa Barbara) at least an hour early to secure a seat and order your favorite food and drink.
