Science Pub: Kayaking and Conservation with Chuck Graham
At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street
The Channel Islands have unique beauty and amazing wildlife. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to see that wildlife from a kayak? Writer and photographer Chuck Graham will tell stories from his book Paddling into a Natural Balance: Stories of Kayaking and Conservation Around Channel Islands National Park. Graham's book is a 22-year collection of stories and photos covering the recovery and natural wonders of one of the most unique chain of islands in the world. Graham has devoted much of his time exploring what is also known as “the Galápagos Islands of the north,” for the rich biodiversity found throughout these remote isles.
After paddling the islands for over 20 years, Graham is convinced that kayaking is the best way to experience the rugged archipelago. Many of his most memorable moments are revealed in the pages of his book, with the hopes of transporting the reader into this stunning island biome. He's hoping his presentation offers a glimpse of and an appreciation for the island's flora and fauna, and inspires you to seek out your own adventures in wild places.
Copies of Paddling into a Natural Balance will be available for sale at the event.
