Science Pub: The Secret Lives of Snakes

At Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant, 18 E. Ortega Street

May 13, 2024 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

In celebration of the release of the book California Snakes and How to Find Them published by Heyday Press, author Emily Taylor, Ph.D., will bring the stories in her book to life with beautiful photographs and movies of snakes, including footage obtained from recent advances in technology that Emily and her students are using to spy on snakes and learn about their amazing secret lives.

Dr. Taylor, a professor of biological sciences at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, presents stories of snake encounters from her 25 years of studying these scaly animals around the world. Emily will punctuate the presentation with excerpts from the book on our state's bounty of legless creatures – hoping to improve the public image of snakes, especially rattlesnakes.

Copies of Taylor’s new book, California Snakes and How to Find Them, will be available for sale at the event.
