Science Pub: Sticky when Wet—Underwater Superglue from Marine Mussels

At Zoom

March 9, 2020 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

George Degen, Ph.D. candidate Chemical Engineering Department UC Santa Barbara

Water undermines the performance of most adhesives—it’s hard to get things to stick when it’s wet. Nevertheless, many sea creatures secrete robust glues that work underwater. George Degen, Ph.D. candidate at UC Santa Barbara will share his research studying the way marine mussels stick to surfaces, which should guide the design of new medical adhesives for use in the human body.
