Science Pub: Mushroom Marketplace: Trade Between Plants and Fungi Shapes Forests

At Zoom

December 9, 2019 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

Nearly all plants need fungi on their roots. The plants trade energy-rich carbon compounds for important soil resources from the fungi, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and water. In this Science Pub, UCSB postdoctoral scholar Dr. Laura Bogar will share her research on this symbiotic resource trade, exploring how this underground economy may influence both the diversity of trees (and mushrooms) in forests, and the cycling of carbon and nitrogen through forested ecosystems.

Join our fun and friendly conversation, and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature. No tickets or reservations required, but be sure to get to Dargan’s early for a seat and to order your favorite drink and food.

Free admission. Sponsored by HUB.
