Science Pub: Species Names Up Close & Personal

At Zoom

November 11, 2019 / 6:30 PM–8:00 PM

As part of biodiversity research at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, our scientists discover and name new species on a regular basis. The backstories about the species' names are typically left out of scientific publications. Curator of Malacology Daniel L. Geiger, Ph.D., will take you on a tour of the funny, idiosyncratic, and wild side of species names, with many examples from his own work. Along the way, you’ll learn why accurate taxonomy is important to conservation.

Join our fun and friendly conversation, and quench your thirst for knowledge about science and nature. No tickets or reservations required, but be sure to get to Dargan’s early for a seat and to order your favorite drink and food.

Free admission. Sponsored by HUB.
